Hayden Anthony Beck, a 16-year-old white male from Bacliff, Texas, was a beloved son and a promising student. Born in Webster on July 17, 2008, Hayden was a junior at Dickinson High School where he was on the Honor Roll and taking dual credit classes at College of the Mainland. His teachers believed he was going to do great things in life, and those who knew him, even briefly, felt they had lost a shining light.
On the afternoon of Sunday, August 25, 2024, that light was extinguished.
At about 3:20 p.m., residents in Dickinson heard gunshots followed by a loud crash near the area of Timber Drive and Green Lee Lane. When Dickinson police officers arrived, they found Hayden deceased inside a vehicle that had crashed into a driveway on Timber Drive. A subsequent investigation by the medical examiner’s office determined that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds and not from injuries sustained in the crash.
The Dickinson Police Department’s investigation led them to execute residential search warrants at the homes of two suspects. The searches resulted in the arrests of two juveniles, one of whom was 16-year-old Nehemiah Clarke. Both were initially charged with capital murder in connection with Hayden's death. Because they were charged as juveniles, authorities did not release their names at the time of the arrests.
In October 2025, Nehemiah Clarke, then 17, was certified to stand trial as an adult. As part of a plea agreement, his charge was reduced from capital murder to murder, and he pleaded guilty. Prosecutors from the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office stated that Hayden’s family had been closely involved throughout the legal process and were supportive of the final decision. During the court hearing, Hayden’s mother addressed the court through tears, describing the profound and lasting pain her family continues to endure. The case was resolved with Clarke's guilty plea in October 2025.
