On September 8, 2024, 18-year-old Kaylee Lanay Merchant was fatally shot in Cleburne, Texas. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. in the 500 block of Poindexter Avenue. In the days following the shooting, Cleburne police identified 20-year-old Giovanni Jimenez Diaz as the primary suspect. An arrest warrant was issued, and authorities sought public assistance in locating him. On September 13, 2024, Diaz was apprehended and charged with Merchant's murder. He was subsequently booked into the Johnson County Jail.
