On October 5, 2024, in Bruceville-Eddy, Texas, 18-year-old Braxton Lee Johnson tragically lost his life alongside his father, 38-year-old Michael Morris Jr. The incident occurred near the intersection of Mackey Ranch Road and Old Moody Road, where both sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Morris was pronounced dead at the scene, while Johnson was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The events leading to the shooting reportedly began when Morris allegedly made an offensive gesture toward 32-year-old Romi Frentescu, a member of the Cossacks Motorcycle Club. According to arrest affidavits, Frentescu claimed that Morris confronted him near his residence, leading to a physical altercation during which Morris purportedly brandished a switchblade. Frentescu alleged that he acted in self-defense, discharging his firearm during the confrontation. However, investigators noted inconsistencies in his account, particularly the absence of injuries consistent with his claims of being attacked.
Witnesses at the scene provided critical information. A passing nurse, who stopped to administer CPR to Morris, reported that Frentescu arrived in a red pickup truck and demanded she cease her life-saving efforts, expressing a desire for the victim to die. This interaction, along with other witness statements, contributed to the charges against him. Frentescu was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder. His girlfriend, 30-year-old Alyssa Marleen Sevilla, was also arrested and charged with capital murder, accused of driving the getaway vehicle and returning to the scene shortly after the incident.
