On October 19, 2024, at approximately midnight, 21-year-old Marco Antonio Viera was found fatally shot in the driver's seat of his black Toyota at the intersection of Lomas Del Sur Boulevard and South Ejido Avenue in south Laredo, Texas. This incident marked the city's fifth homicide of the year.
In the days following the discovery, the Laredo Police Department initiated an intensive investigation, interviewing multiple persons of interest and eyewitnesses.
By October 28, authorities had arrested four individuals in connection with Viera's death: 17-year-old Angel Humberto Amaro, 20-year-olds Humberto Campos and Ruben Cavazos, and a 16-year-old juvenile. All were charged with first-degree murder. The adult suspects were booked into the Webb County Jail, while the juvenile was transported to the Webb County Youth Village.
The investigation continued, and on October 31, a fifth suspect, 19-year-old Luis Alhnaim Martinez, was apprehended in San Antonio through a collaborative effort involving the Laredo and San Antonio U.S. Marshals and the Laredo Police Department's U.S. Marshals Task Force. Martinez was charged with first-degree murder and received a $100,000 bond from the 49th District Court.
The arrests underscore the Laredo Police Department's commitment to maintaining a 100% clearance rate in murder cases, reflecting their dedication to community safety. As the legal process unfolds, the department continues to urge anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
