On October 27, 2024, 30-year-old Ricardo Ortiz Morquecho was fatally shot near Mission Road and East Huff Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at an after-hours establishment. According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), Ortiz Morquecho was causing a disturbance in the parking lot, during which he allegedly threatened to shoot and run over a group of people.
In response, an individual at the scene drew a firearm and shot Ortiz Morquecho, who was later pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
The shooter remained at the scene and claimed self-defense. SAPD detained the individual for questioning; however, no charges have been filed as the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the shooter.
Born on February 10, 1994, in Saltillo, Mexico, Ricardo Ortiz Morquecho was a dedicated construction worker employed by GMI. He was passionate about his work and took pride in the buildings he helped construct. Known for his love of family gatherings, especially barbecues, he cherished spending time with his loved ones. He had a particular fondness for elote and carne asadas. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed trips to the river and introducing his children to new experiences. Additionally, he had a passion for breeding and caring for his dogs, participating in shows, and was proud of his kennel, SouthTownKennels. His interests also included old-school cars and trucks, notably his Bronco and RAM. He is survived by his wife of six years, Amanda Mata; their children, Juliet, Ricardo Jr., and Royce; his parents, Ricardo Ortiz Puente and Dina Morquecho; his grandparents, Ricardo Ortiz Sr. and Maria Ortiz Puente; his sisters, Nuvia and Diana Ortiz Morquecho; and his nephew, Mateo Alvarez.
The death of Ortiz Morquecho has deeply affected his family and the local community. An online memorial has been established in his honor, where friends and loved ones have shared condolences and memories.
