On January 30, 2023, 43-year-old David Ramirez was found fatally shot alongside his parents, 68-year-old Sonia Ramirez and 66-year-old George Ramirez, in their family home on Ramona Place in Ontario, California. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department launched an investigation into the triple homicide, identifying the victims' relative, 29-year-old Pete Anthony Renteria, as the primary suspect.
Renteria remained at large for several months following the incident.
In October 2023, he was apprehended after allegedly committing another fatal shooting in Upland, California. Authorities reported that Renteria was involved in a prior altercation with a 34-year-old man at Memorial Park in Upland. He allegedly returned to the park, targeted the victim, and fatally shot him. Police arrested Renteria near the scene and recovered what is believed to be the firearm used in the shooting.
Following his arrest, Renteria was booked into the San Bernardino County Jail, facing charges related to both the Upland shooting and the January triple homicide of his family members. The motive behind the killings remains undisclosed. The Ramirez family, described by relatives as devoted and compassionate, continues to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
