On April 9, 2023, at approximately 5:30 a.m., deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of gunfire in the 3000 block of Equitation Lane in Bonita, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 54-year-old John Wesley Dooley, a transient living in the area, suffering from a gunshot wound. Dooley was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
