On April 11, 2023, 17-year-old Dylan Ramirez was fatally shot during an attempted robbery in Los Angeles' Koreatown neighborhood. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near 7th and Berendo streets, where Dylan was seated in the passenger seat of a parked Nissan Altima with a friend. A man approached the vehicle, brandished a firearm, and demanded money. When the driver attempted to flee, the assailant fired multiple shots, striking Dylan in the head.
After the shooting, Dylan's friend drove to the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Burlington Avenue in search of assistance. There, they encountered Los Angeles Police Department officers who provided emergency medical aid. Despite their efforts, Dylan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dylan's family remembers him as a humorous individual with aspirations of becoming an electrician after high school. His brother, Alejandro Castro, expressed deep sorrow, noting that Dylan "still had a lot of life left and a lot of plans."
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Los Angeles Police Department launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect. The assailant was described as a heavyset Hispanic male in his early 20s, standing between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall.
As of December 2024, the suspect remains at large, and no arrests have been reported in connection with Dylan Ramirez's death. Law enforcement continues to seek information from the public to aid in their investigation.
