On July 14, 2017, Mike Whitford, aged 49, was tragically shot and killed in Chicago, Illinois. The shooting was part of an incident involving Ralph Mendez, Jr., a member of the Latin Dragon Nation street gang. Mendez, Jr., and others targeted individuals whom they suspected were rival gang members or associates. During the attack, Mendez fired more than 15 shots, resulting in the death of Mike Whitford and injuries to another victim, who was shot in the neck.
