On the morning of May 16, 2023, Kamal Mohamed, a 66-year-old resident of San Pedro, was fatally shot in front of a dollar store in Compton, California. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. in the 200 block of W. Rosecrans Avenue. Witnesses reported that Mohamed, possibly the owner of the Oasis $1 Store, was shot inside the establishment. After being wounded, he managed to walk outside but collapsed shortly thereafter, where responding deputies found him.
