On August 4, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 37-year-old insurance executive Ryan Pincus was fatally shot near the intersection of Mason and Eddy streets in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. Pincus, a vice president of cyber underwriting for Allied World Insurance Co., was visiting the city on business and was returning to his hotel after attending a Giants game and dining with friends.
The assailant, identified as Anthony Hodges, a security guard employed by Allied Universal Security Services, confronted Pincus without provocation, escalating the encounter from a verbal altercation to a physical attack, ultimately drawing his firearm and shooting Pincus in the torso. Hodges fled the scene immediately after the shooting and has remained at large since the incident.
In response to the lack of progress in apprehending Hodges, Pincus's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court against Allied Universal Security Services, alleging negligent hiring and supervision of the security guard. The lawsuit contends that the company's failure to implement proper safety protocols contributed to Pincus's death.
