On August 29, 2023, at approximately 10:10 p.m., 35-year-old Robert Emerson Pitts was fatally shot on a sidewalk near 5316 South Broadway in the South Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.

Witnesses reported that an unknown assailant approached Pitts and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene. Responding officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Newton Division found Pitts with a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
