On September 2, 2023, the body of 49-year-old Anthony Quinn Ussery was discovered beneath the Culver Boulevard bridge in Playa del Rey, California. Authorities found him inside a "shed-like" structure located within the Ballona Creek flood control channel. Responding to a call around 10:40 a.m., first responders, including lifeguards, fire personnel, and a swift water rescue team, retrieved his body from the confined space.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office identified Ussery and determined that he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the torso, classifying his death as a homicide. Reports indicate that Ussery had been experiencing homelessness at the time of his death.
The Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division is leading the investigation into Ussery's death. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
