On September 5, 2023, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office responded to a welfare check request at a residence on the 1400 block of Marty Avenue in McKinleyville, California. Inside, deputies discovered the bodies of three individuals: 62-year-old Kimberly Anne King, her husband, 58-year-old Kip Kari King, and 81-year-old Max Gerald Hunt.
