Employed as a pizza delivery driver for Domino's, Gabriel was on a work break, parked in his car in front of his home on the 1400 block of Rutherford Lane, when the incident occurred. A vehicle approached his parked car, and a passenger exited, shooting Gabriel multiple times at close range before fleeing the scene.
Despite prompt medical attention, Gabriel was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting was reported around 4:52 p.m., and Oakley police officers arrived shortly thereafter. Tragically, Gabriel's mother was inside their home at the time and witnessed the shooting from a window. She heard the gunshots and, upon investigating, discovered her son critically injured. The family had recently gathered for holiday festivities, making the loss even more poignant during the holiday season.
Gabriel was a dedicated student in his final semester at Los Medanos College, with plans to transfer to Cal State East Bay. He had been working as a delivery driver for over four years to support his education. Known for his infectious laugh and love for family and friends, Gabriel was passionate about basketball, video games, and was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspect or suspects remain unidentified. The Oakley Police Department is actively investigating the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward.
