On December 30, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., authorities responded to a reported assault with a weapon at Dignity Health Urgent Care on Sierra Lakes Parkway in Fontana, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Tyler Monfort seated inside a parked vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Tyler was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigations revealed that earlier that day, Tyler, his 21-year-old brother, Christian Monfort, and a friend had driven to an off-road trail in Lytle Creek. While the trio was seated in the vehicle, Christian, who had a firearm in his possession, discharged the weapon, fatally striking Tyler. In a desperate attempt to save Tyler, the friend drove him to the urgent care facility in Fontana. Upon arrival, Christian fled the scene on foot.
Law enforcement officers located Christian at a nearby business, still in possession of the firearm. It was reported that he had threatened an employee of another nearby establishment with the weapon. Subsequently, Christian was arrested and booked at West Valley Detention Center on charges of murder. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
