On January 17, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Fresno Police Department officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation near Lee Street and Lorena Avenue in southwest Fresno. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Taeshawn Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. Johnson was promptly transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
In the course of their investigation, homicide detectives identified 44-year-old Alfred Samuels as the primary suspect in Johnson's death. A search warrant executed at Samuels' residence led to the recovery of evidence pertinent to the crime. Subsequently, Samuels was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of murder.
Investigators revealed that prior to the shooting, Johnson had been involved in an argument with an individual, which escalated into the fatal encounter. While Samuels has been apprehended, the investigation remains active.
