On January 20, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Pomona Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 500 block of North Claremont Place. Upon arrival, they discovered 22-year-old Emanuel Moran, a resident of Pomona, deceased in an alley from a gunshot wound to the head. A second victim, identified as 19-year-old Aly Mejia, was found critically injured and transported to a local hospital.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed Moran's death as a homicide. Despite an extensive investigation by the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit, the motive for the shooting remains unknown. As of now, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not identified any suspects.
In a related note, records indicate that on December 31, 2019, Moran was arrested by Pomona Police for multiple offenses, including possession of a firearm and controlled substances, resisting arrest, vandalism, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and the manufacture or sale of a large-capacity magazine.
