On February 18, 2024, at approximately 1 a.m., 32-year-old Long Beach resident Johnny Santos was fatally shot during a physical altercation in the 5300 block of East 2nd Street, a bustling area in Belmont Shore known for its bars and restaurants. The incident began as a fight between Santos and another man, which escalated when the assailant drew a firearm and shot Santos in the upper body. Emergency responders transported Santos to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
