On September 23, 2021, after a three-month investigation, the LBPD Homicide Detail and the Special Investigations Division conducted a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of four suspects. Gustavo Soto, Edilberto Valadez, Ernesto Ramirez, and Eduardo Rodriguez were apprehended in connection with the murders of Rafael Araiza and another individual, Reginald English, who was killed on June 25, 2021. The suspects faced multiple charges, including murder, kidnapping, and accessory after the fact. The arrests were made following the execution of search warrants at various locations, where law enforcement officers seized firearms, ammunition, and other evidence.
The arrests marked a significant step forward in the investigation, with the LBPD continuing to gather evidence and present their findings to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for further legal proceedings. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gang-related violence in Long Beach and the efforts of law enforcement to address and mitigate such crimes.
