On April 20, 2024, at approximately 3:35 a.m., El Monte police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 3800 block of Penn Mar Avenue, near the intersections of Interstate 10 and the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Stephanie Najera suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner later identified the victim as Stephanie Lily Najera, born on December 25, 1981. The coroner's office determined the manner of death to be homicide, with the cause being multiple gunshot wounds.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is assisting the El Monte Police Department in the ongoing investigation. As of now, no motive has been established, and there are no descriptions of any suspects. In the wake of her tragic death, Stephanie Najera's family and friends have expressed their grief and condolences. A visitation was held on May 25, 2024, at Pierce Brothers Turner & Stevens Mortuary in San Gabriel, California, to honor her memory.
As the investigation continues, the community remains hopeful that those responsible for Stephanie Najera's death will be brought to justice. Authorities continue to seek any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator(s).
