On June 2, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., Sacramento police responded to reports of a shooting on the 3400 block of 33rd Street in the Oak Park neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered 53-year-old Herbert Edward Ballwin suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following a three-week investigation, homicide detectives arrested 22-year-old Floyd Antonio Smith of Sacramento on June 25, 2024, in
connection with Ballwin's death. Smith was charged with homicide and booked into the Sacramento County Jail, where he is being held without bail. He appeared in Sacramento Superior Court for his arraignment and was scheduled for further proceedings on July 1, 2024.
