Upon arrival, they discovered 56-year-old Kimberly Sue Dunlap suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The following day, June 9, 2024, homicide investigators identified and arrested the suspect as 58-year-old William Dunlap, the husband of the deceased. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of murder. At the time of his arrest, no motive for the shooting had been publicly disclosed.
On June 12, 2024, William Dunlap was formally charged with murder, along with a sentence-enhancing allegation of using a firearm to cause great bodily injury.
