On June 10, 2024, 16-year-old Nathan Devon Chanthavong was tragically found deceased in West Oakland, California. His body was discovered around 1:30 a.m. on Filbert Street near 9th Street, having been fatally shot and left on the roadside.
Nathan, a sophomore at Skyline High School, was known for his cheerful demeanor and sense of humor. He had been staying at his aunt Eleannor's residence on the night of the incident.
Sometime after midnight, he left the house without notifying anyone. His family, including his mother Vicky and his younger siblings, are deeply mourning his untimely death.
The Oakland Police Department is actively investigating Nathan's death but, as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Homicide Section at (510) 238-3821 or the Tip Line at (510) 238-7950.
In the wake of this tragedy, Nathan's family has organized a funeral service and set up a GoFundMe campaign to assist with expenses. The family is also calling on the perpetrator to come forward, seeking justice for Nathan's untimely death.
