On the evening of June 25, 2024, at approximately 10:15 p.m., 35-year-old Sacramento resident Derrick Michael Walker was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express located on the 2400 block of Maritime Drive in Elk Grove, California. Witnesses reported hearing an argument preceding the gunfire, after which a vehicle was seen leaving the area. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but Walker succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
