On July 8, 2024, 36-year-old Alma Adilene Aguilar Mendoza was found deceased from a gunshot wound in the 3100 block of Northstead Drive, located in Sacramento's Northgate neighborhood. Officers responded to a medical aid call shortly before 10 a.m. and discovered her at the scene, where she was pronounced dead.
Following an investigation, Sacramento police identified 51-year-old Sacramento resident Urberto Dotson as a suspect in the homicide.
On July 28, 2024, Dotson surrendered to homicide detectives and was subsequently arrested. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail, facing charges of homicide and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Dotson's arraignment was scheduled for July 30, 2024, in Sacramento Superior Court.
The Sacramento County Coroner's Office confirmed the identity of the deceased as Alma Aguilar Mendoza. Funeral services were held on July 25 and 26, 2024, at North Sacramento Funeral Home and St. Joseph's Catholic Church, respectively. Friends and family remembered Alma for her kindness and the love she had for her children.
