On the night of July 18, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., Chula Vista police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 200 block of C Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Genesis Burgueno suffering from a gunshot wound, accompanied by a man whose identity has not been disclosed. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Burgueno was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting occurred in a field behind the Woodland Hills Apartments, an area known to be frequented by unhoused individuals. Burgueno was believed to be experiencing homelessness at the time of her death.
As of now, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or motives behind the shooting. The investigation remains active, and police have urged anyone with information to contact San Diego County Crime Stoppers.
