On August 2, 2024, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers from the Southwest Division responded to reports of gunfire near 1046 W. Martin Luther King Blvd., west of Vermont Boulevard, in South Los Angeles. Upon arrival, they discovered 50-year-old Steven Rayo seated in his vehicle, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head. His car had collided with two parked vehicles, indicating he was attacked while inside his vehicle.
