On August 27, 2024, William Robinson, a 27-year-old Oakland High School graduate, was fatally shot while working in East Oakland. Robinson was known for selling cell phone services to low-income customers from a tent in a busy parking lot on International Boulevard. The shooting occurred in broad daylight near a mural that reads "Heal Oakland," behind a Dollar Store.
