On September 26, 2024, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Napa police responded to reports of a shooting in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds outside an apartment complex: 38-year-old Georgina "Gina" Padilla, a Napa resident and mother of three daughters, and 54-year-old attorney Ralph Andino III from American Canyon. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations quickly identified 28-year-old Baltazar Rangel Juarez, reportedly Padilla's new boyfriend, as the primary suspect. Around 1:30 p.m., officers located Juarez driving near Juarez and Second streets in Napa. When police attempted a traffic stop, Juarez fled, leading to a pursuit that ended in Kennedy Park after his vehicle became disabled. During a standoff with law enforcement, Juarez refused to surrender and ultimately inflicted a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Juarez succumbed to his injuries on October 2, 2024, six days after the incident. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the double homicide. The tragic deaths of Padilla and Andino have deeply affected the Napa community, with condolences extended to their families and loved ones. The Napa Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
