On November 13, 2024, Rachael Martinez, 31, and her husband, Jose Medina, 39, were fatally shot in their vehicle near the intersection of Union and Ash Streets in downtown San Diego. The couple was en route to a court hearing to obtain a permanent restraining order against Christopher Farrell, 26, with whom Martinez had a prior dating relationship.
