In a tragic turn of events stemming from a neighborhood feud, 29-year-old Mitchell Steele Jr. lost his life in Nashville, Tennessee. On the evening of March 30, 2023, Steele was lending a hand to a friend who was moving out of his apartment on 14th Avenue North to escape an ongoing dispute with a neighbor. What began as a simple act of friendship soon escalated into a fatal confrontation.

Teddarrius Perry, quickly turned violent. Steele's friend reportedly fired at Perry, who then returned fire. In the ensuing shootout, Steele was struck by multiple gunshots. He was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and died.
Following the shooting, law enforcement located Perry a short time later near 15th Avenue North and Cass Street. When approached by an officer, Perry fled on foot. During the pursuit, an officer observed that Perry was armed with a handgun. An officer successfully used a taser to apprehend Perry and take him into custody. After being treated for a minor graze wound to his leg, Perry was booked on several outstanding warrants, which included charges for resisting arrest, weapon possession, and drug possession. Homicide detectives subsequently obtained a criminal homicide warrant against Perry for the death of Mitchell Steele Jr.
