In the early morning hours of a late April day, the sound of gunshots shattered the peace at the Five Point Mobile Home Park in Morristown, Tennessee. When police arrived at the scene on Brights Pike Road before 1 a.m., they discovered a grim scene. Inside his own car, parked outside his residence, 26-year-old Julio Torres was found deceased, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Not far away, his 35-year-old co-worker from a local construction company, Francisco Suarez, was on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head.
The investigation into the violent encounter quickly gained momentum. Authorities released information about a vehicle of interest, a white 2005 Pontiac Vibe that had been reported stolen. Surveillance footage captured the car near a Sunoco gas station around 12:35 a.m. that same morning. Though the motive for the shooting remained unclear, the search for those responsible intensified.
Within a week, the Morristown Police Department announced a significant breakthrough in the case. Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the death of Julio Torres. The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Jonathan Ditullio and a juvenile accomplice. Ditullio was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and especially aggravated robbery. The juvenile, whose name was not publicly released, faced the same charges.
