In the summer of 2023, the life of Barry Owens Porterfield, a 31-year-old Black/African American man from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 6th, gunfire erupted in the 2500 block of Smith Ridge Cove in the Frayser neighborhood. When the chaos subsided, Porterfield lay dead at the scene, a victim of the shooting. Another individual was also struck by the gunfire and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition.
