On July 9, 2023, retired Memphis Police Department homicide detective Mark Anthony LeSure, aged 57, was found unresponsive in the driveway of his Memphis, Tennessee, home. Officers responded to a man-down call at approximately 8 a.m., where LeSure was pronounced dead at the scene. LeSure, a U.S. Army veteran who served as a military police officer for a decade, joined the Memphis Police Department in 1992 and retired in 2021.
