In the summer of 2023, the life of 19-year-old Deandre G. Garner, a Black male from Memphis, Tennessee, was tragically cut short by gun violence. On Monday, July 17, 2023, Garner was fatally shot in what was reported as one of at least five shootings that occurred in North Memphis in less than an eight-hour timeframe.
