In the winter of 2023, the life of 51-year-old Christopher 'Chris' Charles Hill, a husband and father from Knoxville, Tennessee, was tragically cut short in what police have described as an apparent targeted shooting. On the afternoon of Wednesday, December 13, 2023, Knoxville Police Department officers were called to the scene at 218 E. Depot Avenue, where they found Hill unresponsive next to a box truck.
He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Hill's death has revealed a chilling sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting. Earlier that same day, an unknown individual had stolen a gray Toyota 4Runner that was left running outside a home in West Knoxville. Later that afternoon, Hill, a local plumber, was working at a residence on Boright Drive. Surveillance footage from the area captured the stolen 4Runner circling the location, seemingly observing Hill's work truck. The footage further showed the 4Runner following Hill as he left Boright Drive and made his way to East Depot Avenue.
Upon his arrival at Depot Avenue, as Hill exited his truck, an unidentified suspect emerged from the stolen 4Runner, opened fire, and then fled the scene in the same vehicle. The gray Toyota 4Runner was later discovered abandoned by authorities. Despite the ongoing investigation and the pursuit of active leads by Homicide Unit detectives, no suspects have been publicly identified, arrested, or charged in connection with the murder of Christopher Hill. The Knoxville Police Department continues to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case, offering a potential cash reward for tips that could assist in their investigation.
