On January 5, 2024, 73-year-old Jeffrey Owen was fatally shot at a convenience store located at 906 Peach Street in Selmer, Tennessee. The incident began when Owen engaged in a conversation with the driver of a Chevrolet Impala parked in front of the store. An 18-year-old passenger, identified as Jakobe Hill, became involved in a verbal exchange with Owen, which escalated when Hill pushed Owen and forcibly removed his baseball cap.
