In the early morning hours of a Saturday in Coraopolis, the sound of gunfire shattered the peace on Fourth Avenue. When police and paramedics arrived at the scene near the Steel Shaker bar shortly before 2 a.m., they found a chaotic and tragic situation. One man, 35-year-old Anthony Johnson Jr. of Aliquippa, was found with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other individuals, two men and a woman, were also struck by bullets but survived the ordeal and were transported to local hospitals in stable condition.
The events leading up to the shooting reportedly began inside the crowded bar, where a fight broke out among several patrons. A video posted to social media captured some of the chaotic moments before and after the gunshots rang out. Neighbors in the area described hearing multiple shots and seeing people frantically running from the back of the establishment. One witness recounted the scene as 'horrific,' having seen a person on the ground in a nearby alley.
In the days following the shooting, Allegheny County Police homicide detectives began their investigation. They quickly announced that they had identified everyone involved in the incident. Despite identifying the individuals, authorities did not immediately release their names or announce any arrests. Investigators stated that upon the completion of their inquiry, the case would be presented to the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office to determine if and what charges would be filed. The police also assured the public that they believed there was no further danger to the community.
