In a heroic act of brotherly protection, Keneri Montoya Santos, a 24-year-old man, was fatally shot in an Upper Darby, Pennsylvania home. The native Honduran was defending his sister from her abusive ex-boyfriend in the early morning hours of February 4, 2024. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. on Kent Road when Yeicop Menjivar, 31, reportedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's residence.
An argument erupted between Menjivar and his ex-girlfriend, prompting Montoya Santos to intervene.
The confrontation moved to the basement of the home where a physical altercation ensued. During the struggle, Menjivar allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Montoya Santos once in the head. He was rushed to Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center, where he remained on life support for several days so his organs could be donated.
Following the shooting, Menjivar fled the scene in a blue Honda Civic. Upper Darby police have since issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of first- and third-degree murder, as well as burglary and gun offenses. Authorities consider Menjivar, who also goes by the name Yieco Menjivar Pacheco, to be armed and dangerous.
The family of Montoya Santos has remembered him as a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice to save his older sister. Police have echoed this sentiment, stating that his intervention likely saved his sister from serious harm. The investigation into the shooting and the search for Yeicop Menjivar remain ongoing.
