Michael Wayne Gluck, a 52-year-old White/Caucasian male, died on February 9, 2023, after being shot at a residence on Sings Creek Lane in the Biscoe area of North Carolina. Gluck was associated with Eagle Springs, where he lived before his death. At approximately 4:15 p.m. that afternoon, deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the residence following a report of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found Gluck suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel transported him to Moore Regional Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal. Investigators determined that the shooting occurred following an altercation involving Gluck and another man who lived at the residence.
Authorities arrested Craig Timothy Hicks, 57, at the scene. Investigators said Gluck and Hicks were living together and that an argument between the two men preceded the shooting. Hicks was charged with first-degree murder and was initially held at the Moore County Detention Center without bond. No additional suspects were publicly identified in connection with Gluck's death.
The first-degree murder charge ultimately proceeded through the court system, but the prosecution did not result in a conviction. Hicks was tried in connection with Gluck's death and was found not guilty. The acquittal meant that Hicks was not criminally convicted of Gluck's killing despite having initially been arrested at the scene and charged with first-degree murder.
Gluck was born on January 29, 1971, in Orange County, California, to David H. Gluck and Rebecca Freeman Davis. He left behind his wife, Suzanna Smith; daughters Erica Gluck and Megan Gluck; sons Michael Arron Gluck, Joshua Allen and Nicholas Alexander; his parents; brothers Keith Gluck and Steven Gluck; and six grandchildren. His family held a visitation at Phillips Funeral Home in Star on February 16, 2023.
The case began as a homicide prosecution after investigators attributed the fatal shooting to an argument between two housemates, but its eventual legal outcome was an acquittal. Although Hicks faced the serious accusation of first-degree murder following Gluck's death, he was ultimately found not guilty and therefore was not convicted of the homicide.
