On May 2, 2023, at approximately 7 p.m., Winston-Salem police responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of Barry Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 69-year-old William "Bill" Bell Jr. lying in the street with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
