On June 10, 2023, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Bladen County Communications received a 911 call reporting a gunshot wound at a residence in the 1300 block of Highway 53 West in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies found 62-year-old William David Busing with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was immediately transported to Bladen County Hospital, where an Airbus H-135 helicopter was on standby to airlift him to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
