On June 10, 2023, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Bladen County Communications received a 911 call reporting a gunshot wound at a residence in the 1300 block of Highway 53 West in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies found 62-year-old William David Busing with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was immediately transported to Bladen County Hospital, where an Airbus H-135 helicopter was on standby to airlift him to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Despite these efforts, Busing succumbed to his injuries.
At the scene, deputies arrested 58-year-old Max Robert Busing, the younger brother of the victim. Max Busing, who had recently relocated from Palm Bay, Florida, to North Carolina, was charged with murder. He was taken into custody and held at the Bladen County Detention Center without bond. The Bladen County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
