On July 30, 2023, at approximately 2:44 p.m., officers from the Eden Police Department responded to reports of an active shooting at Freedom Park in Eden, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 40-year-old Dr. Gwendolyn Lavonne Riddick lying next to her red Ford Mustang, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to UNC Rockingham Hospital, Dr. Riddick was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
