On August 3, 2023, at approximately 7:42 p.m., deputies from the Pender County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting victim at 5595 Shaw Highway in Rocky Point, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 42-year-old Ronald Lee Simmons Jr. suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the deputies and subsequent intervention by Emergency Medical Services, Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene.
