On August 4, 2023, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Greensboro police and emergency responders were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Interstate 40 West near exit 216 (Patterson Street). Upon arrival, they discovered a car engulfed in flames in the center lane, with an unconscious individual inside. After extinguishing the fire, authorities identified the deceased as 35-year-old Dedrick Lee Wooding.
