On September 2, 2024, 21-year-old Dawson Bryan Thompson of Mount Gilead, North Carolina, was tragically killed. Thompson, an employee at Ingles in Albemarle, had finished his shift around 5:15 p.m. He then traveled to a location in Mount Gilead, where he met two juveniles, aged 14 and 16. Surveillance footage later revealed that one of the juveniles concealed a long rifle in his pants, while the other carried a pistol.
