On August 29, 2023, the body of 34-year-old Hadeel Ghadhanfer Hikmat was discovered in Jordan Lake near the Farrington Point Boat Ramp in Chatham County, North Carolina. A boater spotted her floating face-down in shallow water and alerted authorities. Fingerprint analysis later confirmed her identity. An autopsy revealed that Hikmat had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the upper back, along with blunt force trauma to her head, left ankle, and forearm.
