On the evening of September 15, 2023, at approximately 8:02 PM, Raleigh Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 2500 block of Cedar Forest Way. Upon arrival, they discovered 51-year-old Jesse Oliver suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
Despite medical efforts, Jesse Oliver succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
In the course of their investigation, Raleigh Police identified 35-year-old Kaleek Cross as a suspect in the shooting. Cross was subsequently arrested and charged with murder in connection with Oliver's death.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not disclosed whether there was any prior relationship between Oliver and Cross. The investigation is ongoing, with police continuing to gather evidence and urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
Jesse Oliver, affectionately known as "Ty Ty," was originally from New Jersey and had relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he was employed at Verizon Wireless. He is survived by his mother, children, siblings, and a host of other relatives and friends.
