Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Khasim Nur'i Burgess suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A second victim, a 23-year-old male, arrived at the hospital via private vehicle with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The Greensboro Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into Burgess's death. Despite thorough efforts, no suspect information was available at the time, and the case remained unsolved. Funeral services for Khasim were held on September 29, 2023, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, followed by interment at Lakeview Memorial Park Cemetery.
